Overland Park Laura Friederich was a force.
The 5-foot-7 senior guard scored a game-high 25 points to lead Shawnee Mission South to a 54-40 Sunflower League girls basketball victory over Lawrence High on Monday.
SM South (2-4 overall, 1-1 league) held a commanding 21-12 lead at halftime and remained in control in the second half to dump the Lions (3-5, 1-2).
"They changed defenses a bit and I don't know if that frustrated us or what happened," LHS coach Kristin Mallory said. "We missed a lot of shots. When a shot didn't go in, we acted like we didn't know what to do."
LHS soph Josie Polk scored 18 points 17 in the second half.
"I talked to her at halftime about being more aggressive and taking it to the hole," Mallory said. "The other girls did a good job knowing she had the hot hand."
