— Emmitt Smith of Dallas surpassed the 1,000-yard mark Sunday against Detroit, the first running back to gain 1,000 yards in 11 consecutive seasons.

Smith, 32, ran for 77 yards on 18 carries in Detroit's 15-10 victory, raising his season total to 1,021 and career total to 16,187. He trails only Walter Payton's career mark of 16,726 yards.

Smith also scored his 159th touchdown, which trails only Jerry Rice's total, on a 2-yard run in the second quarter. He has run for three TDs this season and an NFL-best 148 over his 12-year career.

Smith shared the record for consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons with former Lion Barry Sanders. Payton is the only other player to run for 1,000 yards 10 times. He did it in an 11-year span.
