Eisenhower Library releases sound recordings
The National Archives and Records Administration announced that the Eisenhower Presidential LIbrary, Abilene, has released compact discs of 38 Dictaphone recordings of Dwight D. Eisenhower.
The discs feature conversations between the former president and others in his office at Columbia University.
All the conversations were recorded between September 1949 and June 1950 while Eisenhower served as president of Columbia University. They include a conversation with John Foster Dulles, his future secretary of state, about running for political office.
A staff archivist discovered the recordings in September 1997, during a routine processing of papers of Brig. Gen. Robert L. Schulz, aide-de-camp to Gen. Eisenhower.
