— The new year ushers in many new rules, especially when it comes to fashion.

The editors at Glamour magazine offer these fashion-forward tips to keep from looking "so last year."

Don't throw out your camel-colored sweater: Safari-inspired looks are hot. Put away your camouflage, though, and leave combat clothes to the armed forces.

Don't look drab in 2001's head-to-toe black ensembles. Brighten up with a touch of bold colors, such as red, turquoise or yellow.

Don't squeeze toes into last year's pointy toes. Make your feet happy and wear flat shoes with round toes or thong sandals.

Don't relive the 1980s, but remember the '70s and their hippie trends.
