Bottom Line

Douglas County commissioners will receive new contract proposals for medical services at the Douglas County Jail. Sheriff Rick Trapp will recommend signing a contract with Dr. Dennis Sale of Heartland Medical Outreach to provide physician services and with the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn. to provide nursing services.

The total cost of the two contracts is $355,580.

Background

The county is required by state and federal law to provide medical services to inmates in the jail. Trapp warned commissioners last month that the new contracts may result in costs that were $40,000 more than budgeted. Trapp, however, was able to negotiate down the costs from what was originally anticipated and the new contracts will come in only $800 above budget.
