He was born July 29, 1911, in Burlingame, the son of Albert P. and Constance Josephine (Burton) Carey. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident.
Mr. Carey was a machinist at Hercules Sunflower Ammunition Plant, DeSoto, for 20 years, before he retired in 1975. He previously was a machinist at Baldwin Ward, Warner's Steel and Ottawa Steel, all of Ottawa, and Beech and Boeing, Wichita.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa, and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Kansas City, Mo.
He married Lois Brubaker on Dec. 2, 1936, in Garnett. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Marlene Ferguson, Ottawa; two sons, Lawrence, Moberly, Mo., and Richard, Osage City; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today until the service hour at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.
