Dallas — Former Colorado Avalanche executive Francois Giguere was hired Thursday by the Dallas Stars to become assistant general manager when Doug Armstrong moves up to GM. Stars general manager Bob Gainey announced plans last month to step down to take a consulting job with the team. Armstrong is Gainey's longtime assistant and takes over the top job June 1.
