Jeanette Stauffer, the mother of Kansas University student Shannon Martin, is continuing to press the FBI and Costa Rican authorities for answers in her daughter's stabbing death on May 13 in Golfito, Costa Rica.
In a phone call from the FBI Friday, Jeanette Stauffer learned that 27-year-old Kata Cruz, of Costa Rica, has been formally charged with homicide in Shannon Martin's murder. A trial date has not been set.
Stauffer planned to talk with KU officials Friday to ask them to start a reward fund for her daughter so other suspects can be brought to justice.
Shannon Martin was killed during a brief researchtrip in Golfito, Costa Rica, one week before graduating from KU.
