Lubbock, Texas Texas Tech's inside players turned in strong performances Wednesday night as the No. 9 Lady Raiders defeated Kansas 76-54 in their Big 12 opener.
"This was a night for our post players," Tech coach Marsha Sharp said. "No question, they were a big part of our offense."
Jolee Ayers and Cisti Greenwalt each had double-doubles for Tech (10-2, 1-0 Big 12). Ayers scored a career-high 22 points and had 10 rebounds. Greenwalt added 18 and had 15 rebounds.
Kansas (5-9, 0-1) stayed close until midway through the second half, when Tech went on a 17-8 run in which Ayers scored seven points.
The Jayhawks were nearly shut out in rebounds at their end of the court, getting only six.
"Our interior defense was just not there," Kansas coach Marian Washington said. "That's our biggest disappointment. That and a lack of rebounding."
KC Hilgenkamp scored 12 points all in the final minutes and Selena Scott and Blair Waltz added 11 each for Kansas.
