Suspect charged with battering police officer
An Olathe woman was placed in leg restraints and handcuffs early Tuesday after she allegedly fought with Lawrence Police.
Kristin Milligan, 19, was charged Wednesday in Douglas County District Court with one count of battery and two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer.
Shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday patrol officers stopped in the 800 block of Massachusetts Street to check on a man and woman having an argument, police reported. While talking to the man, the woman allegedly struck him.
Officers tried to arrest the woman, and she allegedly kicked and struck them. She was subdued and taken to the Douglas County Jail.
Milligan was to be released on her own recognizance after appearing in court Wednesday afternoon.
Driver leads police on chase
A Lawrence man was arrested Tuesday morning after he allegedly led police on a car and foot chase.
After taking Christopher Sundby, 23, into custody, officers learned there was a warrant for his arrest issued by the Kansas Department of Corrections. Sundby was wanted for absconding from supervision while on parole, a KDOC spokesman said.
About 5 a.m. a Lawrence patrol officer attempted to stop a Ford Tempo that was driven across a gas station parking lot at Ninth and Iowa streets, allegedly to avoid a traffic light.
The driver of the Ford did not stop and led the officer on a pursuit to the 2100 block of Harvard Road, a police report said. The driver then fled on foot. He was found hiding under brush by a nearby house, police said.
Sundby was not charged by the Douglas County District Attorney's Office, but he remained in the Douglas County Jail on Wednesday awaiting custody by KDOC.
