Police arrest suspect for driving into garage wall
A 21-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after a car struck a garage in the 3200 block of West 22nd Street, police said.
The man was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
An 18-year-old female passenger was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.
Authorities said shortly before 9 p.m. a car drove through the wall of the garage.
After the vehicle was pulled out, screw jacks normally used to stabilize collapsed buildings and trenches were brought in to support the garage, according to Rob Kort, battalion chief for Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical Department.
"The screw jacks were used to stabilize. The car, at least up to its doors, was inside the garage and took out the corner support," Kort said.
