— Services for Vallen "Val" Gaines Lancaster, 87, New Albany, will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at United Funeral Home Chapel, New Albany. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park, New Albany.

Mr. Lancaster died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at his home.

He was born Aug. 21, 1914, in Kossuth, the son of William Gaines and Ida Elizabeth (Rodgers) Lancaster.

Mr. Lancaster was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Stockton Dam, Stockton, Mo., where he was reservoir manager.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He married Maybell Palmer. She died earlier. He then married Darlene Shank-Hopkins. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Jan Lancaster, New Albany, and Melissa Quigley, Eustis, Fla.; two sons, Larry, Springfield, Mo., and Larry Hopkins, Lawrence, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to American Cancer Society, Highway 15 South, P.O. Box 810, New Albany, Miss. 38652.
