Services closed for holiday

Government offices and public services in Lawrence will be closed today in observance of New Year's Day.

City, county and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the general services administration and the courts.

City offices in McLouth, Ottawa, Tonganoxie, Baldwin, Oskaloosa, DeSoto and Eudora and county offices in Douglas, Franklin, Jefferson and Leavenworth counties will be closed.

Banks also will be closed.

The Lawrence Bus Co. and Transit System buses will not run.

City of Lawrence residential trash collection will be one day later this week. Commercial pickups will be made one day late.

To report a water or sewer emergency after business hours, on weekends and holidays, call the utilities department at 843-2685.

Douglas County Senior Services will be closed today. All activities, including the Adult Day Program and the noon meal, will be canceled. Meals will not be served at Babcock Place, Edgewood Place, Lecompton, Eudora and Baldwin mealsites. Home meal deliveries will not be made. Bus 62 services also will be canceled.

Lawrence Meals on Wheels meals will be delivered today.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed.

Kansas University offices and libraries will be closed today.

The post office won't make deliveries, but express mail deliveries will be made. Mail pickup from collection boxes won't be made as posted on individual boxes.

UPS pickups will not be available today, and deliveries won't be made.

The circulation office at the Journal-World will be open from 4:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. for walk-in or phone inquiries.
