Austin Texas forward Chris Owens, the team's leading scorer, will miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Owens suffered the injury during the first half of Texas' 71-61 loss to Utah on Saturday.
"An MRI performed this morning confirmed that Chris suffered a torn ACL in his right knee," athletic trainer Brian Farr said on Monday.
Owens, a fifth-senior, was a preseason candidate for the Wooden Award as the nation's top player. He averaged 15.8 points per game and 7.4 rebounds for the Longhorns (7-4). He also blocked 21 shots.
The Longhorns will return to action Wednesday against Texas-Pan American.
