To the editor:
In the midst of this busy season, it's important to remember the best gift we can give ourselves. I discovered a wonderful example of that generosity today (Dec. 22) when my car suddenly gave out, and my dog and I became stranded out at 31st and Louisiana (where there are no parking lots, no phones, etc.). After sitting in my car for a few minutes, watching all the cars go by and wondering what to do next, a voice called out, asking if we needed a phone, a ride, whatever. A young woman named Kate had stopped to help.
Thank you, Kate, for sharing with us your time, your car, your generous spirit. Thank you for noticing us on the side of the road, and for welcoming not only me, but my sloppy dog into your car. Thank you for taking us where we needed to go, and thank you for doing it all with a smile. Thank you for giving the season a little more meaning, and may you be blessed in turn. I am truly grateful, and hope I can do the same for another person in need very soon. Truly, Merry Christmas!
