Topeka He was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Topeka, the son of Antonio A. and Christina (Alfaro) Gutierrez.
Mr. Gutierrez worked as a letter carrier for 32 years and retired in 1990.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was also a member of National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 10, a charter member of Topeka Jazz Workshop, a charter member of Oakland Optimist Club, and he was the postmaster at the Kansas Legislative Post Office. He volunteered at St. Francis Hospital and Shawnee County Public Library.
He married Teresa Valderas. She died earlier. He married Pauline Palacio on Feb. 27, 1960, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Topeka. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include four daughters, Lisa Houser, Prairie Village, Lori Wickliffe, Lawrence, Lydia Schmidt, Topeka, and Deborah Hunter, Mayetta; two sons, Anthony, Topeka, and Ronald, Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Mary Antunez, Lawrence, and Christina Hernandez, Topeka; and 13 grandchildren.
A son, Vincent Gutierrez, also died earlier.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the church, where Little Flower Circle No. 503 and St. Jude's Circle No. 1127 will recite rosaries at 4 p.m., and a parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
