SFT, Tonganoxie advance
CARBONDALE ? Brian Kral, Justin Ramsdell and Ryan Hulings all scored 17 points to boost Santa Fe Trail to a 69-56 victory Tuesday over Abilene in the first round of the Abilene Class 4A sub-state boys basketball tournament.
Tied at 48 after three quarters, SFT (14-7) outscored the Cowboys (8-12) 21-8 in the fourth quarter to advance to the sub-state semifinals on Friday at Abilene.
“Overall our press and defense finally wore them down a bit,” SFT coach Brian Luther said.
Kral scored 11 points in the decisive fourth quarter.

Atchison Bryan Gurss scored 17 points and Jacob Walker 10 as Tonganoxie pasted Atchison Maur Hill in a Class 4A sub-state quarterfinal.
“The biggest key was coming out, playing aggressive and attacking the basket and getting boards,” THS coach David Walker said, crediting the rebounding of Jordan Glenn and Thomas Gilner.
Tongie will meet Lansing in a 4A semifinal on Friday at Hiawatha.

“We had a fantastic year. We ended up with a winning record of 11-10 for our first winning season in 15 years,” said P-L coach Pat Hupfauf. “Atchison had great speed. They play heavyweights all year round. They have great talent and quickness.”

Valley Falls Tyson Allen scored 19 points and Jordan Rider added 16 to lead No. 1 seed Valley Falls, last year’s Class 2A state runner-up, past No. 8 McLouth in the first round of the Holton 2A sub-state. The Dragons (19-2) led 29-7 at halftime and 52-15 after three quarters. Tyler Trackwell scored 13 points to pace McLouth, which finished 3-18.
