There’s an old saying that Kansas doesn’t have weather, only samples of weather. This month reaffirmed the wisdom of that expression. On Feb. 2, above, nearly a half-inch of rain turned to ice in sub-freezing temperatures, covering trees and walkways along Jayhawk Boulevard in front of Green Hall with a glistening sheath. Just three weeks later on Saturday, below, temperatures flirted with 70 degrees, making Jayhawk Boulevard inviting to afternoon joggers. Then winter’s icy fingers regained their grip. Tuesday, Canadian winds, 19-degree temperatures and snow flurries made waiting for a campus bus on Jayhawk Boulevard a memorably frigid experience for Venezuelan Felida Lopez, bottom, a KU English language student.
