If you love horses and are looking for some way to make a contribution to the community, then you might want to pick up the reins at Therapeutic Horse Riding Instruction of Lawrence.

The agency, which provides equine-oriented activities to children and adults with physical, mental and emotional disabilities, will have a volunteer training session at 6:30 p.m. March 7 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 21st Street and Harper Avenue.

“We will have 10 students total so we need 30 volunteers,” Leann Williams, chairman of THRIL’s board, said.

The training session will familiarize participants with the organization and such basic skills as side walking.

Williams said volunteers can help with the riding program, tack maintenance or even take photos for the agency’s scrapbook. They also can serve on the agency’s safety, volunteer, program and special events committees.

For more information about volunteer opportunities at THRIL, call 841-9740. Leave a message and someone from THRIL will call you back.
