The Kansas University Symphonic Band will be touring in March. The tour will begin with a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Lied Center and end at the American Bandmasters Assn. convention in Wichita. Stops in between are Emporia and Topeka.

Five guest conductors will join Robert Foster, director of bands, Tom Stidham, associate director of bands, and James Barnes, composer and music professor, in leading the band during the tour.

Col. John R. Bourgeois, retired director of the U.S. Marine Corps Band, will conduct the Lied Center concert. The program includes “Fanfare for a Festive Day” by Roger Cichy; “Toccata Fantastica, Op. 106” by James Barnes; “Koncertstuck, Movement I” by Robert Schumann; “Cityscape I” by David Holsinger; “Parade Militaire” by Jules Massanet; “Overture to ‘Dancer in the Dark'” by Bjork and Vince Mendoza; “The Beachcomber” by Clive Richardson; and “Regina Coeli” by Pietro Mascagni.

Admission is $7 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available at the Lied Center Box Office, 864-ARTS; Murphy Hall Box Office, 864-3982; and Student Union Activities Box Office, 864-3477.

Other guests conductors during the tour are John Carmichael, director of bands at Western Kentucky University; David Holsinger, conductor of the Wind Ensemble and music professor at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.; William Gora, director of bands at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.; and Kenneth Bloomquist, Michigan State University director of bands emeritus and former band conductor at KU.
