— Scott Russell is running out of records to break.

Kansas University's senior won his third Big 12 Conference title in the weight throw Friday at Devaney Center during the first day of the league's indoor championship.

Russell's throw of 77-103*4 broke his own meet record, set an overall Big 12 record and gave him his sixth victory of the season. He set the all-time collegiate record at the Iowa State Classic with a throw of 81-11*4.

While Russell was the favorite in his competition, junior Monique Peters was a surprise winner for Kansas in the women's long jump. Peters, ranked sixth in the long jump coming in, finished first with a personal-best leap of 19-103*4.

Junior weight thrower Jamie Waters improved her personal-best mark and scored points for KU with an eighth-place throw of 54-11*2.

Junior Benaud Shirley scored points in the men's long jump in sixth place with a KU season-best 23-71*2.

Jennie Wonder set a KU record in the semifinals of the 60-meter hurdles in 8.5 seconds to advance to today's finals.
