St. John’s delegates to attend celebration

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky., will send its catechumens and candidates Sunday to Corpus Christi Church for a regional celebration of the Rite of Election. Abbot Barnabas Senecal from Benedictine Abbey in Atchison will preside.

Parishioners who want a guided experience of reflection in preparation for their annual renewal of baptismal vows are invited to Recollection Evenings. Sessions will be at 7 p.m. Monday and March 4 and 11.

“Tuesdays with Mike,” a Lenten series on the theology of the body, will meet from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the parish hall. Use the north entrance.

Jewish center celebrates Purim

The Lawrence Jewish Community Center, 917 Highland Drive, will have its annual Purim Carnival from 11 a.m. to noon Sunday. The carnival is sponsored by the center’s youth group.

A Family Purim Celebration will begin at 6:15 p.m. Monday with a free hot dog dinner. A family Megillah reading will follow at 7 p.m.

Unity welcomes guest musician

Richard Mekdeci will be guest musician for the 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services Sunday at Unity Church, 416 Lincoln St.

Methodists offer giving program

Steve Childs, executive director of the Kansas Area United Methodist Foundation, will present a program on estate planning and charitable giving Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt.

Wednesdays in Lent continue at 5 p.m. Wednesday with supper and fellowship. Small group Lenten studies are at 6 p.m. followed by a 7:30 p.m. Taize service.

St. Margaret’s sets Lenten program

The Lenten program “Prayer  A Way of Life” continues at 6 p.m. Tuesdays through March 12 at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

St. James celebrates black history

St. James A.M.E. Church, Seventh and Maple streets, will celebrate Black History Month at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The program will recall people, places and events that helped shape history with tributes to church members, music, words and dance.

Trinity Episcopal adds service

Worship at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt., will expand Sunday to include a family service at 4 p.m. This service will be offered the fourth Sunday of each month.

Trinity will celebrate Dorothy Koch’s 100th birthday with a reception after the 8 a.m. Sunday service.

Handbell choir rehearsal is at 3 p.m. Sunday. Chorister rehearsal is 7 p.m. Tuesday and Canterbury Choir rehearsal is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Worden Methodist plans supper

Worden United Methodist Church will serve its annual Ham-N-Bean supper from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today. The menu also includes a taco bar, cornbread, cole slaw, corn, pie, coffee and tea. A craft bazaar also will be offered.

The church is 3 1/2 miles west of the junction of U.S. Highways 56 and 59.

Wheatland offers parenting seminar

Wheatland Church of Christ, 1449 Kasold Drive, is taking registrations for “A Case for Kids,” a video parenting seminar by Paul and Ted Tripp, authors of “Shepherding a Child’s Heart” and “Age of Opportunity.”

The weekly program will include a 30-minute video presentation, followed by a discussion and time of prayer.

Clinton Assembly adds children’s class

Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, 3200 Clinton Parkway, is offering a new Sunday morning class for children. “Growing Kids God’s Way” will meet at 8:30 a.m. Sundays.

An all-church potluck dinner will be served after the noon Sunday service. The annual business meeting will follow.

Ninth Street plans Hughes discussion

A discussion of the book “Not Without Laughter” by Langston Hughes will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Ninth Street Baptist Church Outreach Center, 901 Tenn.
