On Feb. 23, 1902, the Lawrence Journal told of the previous day’s Daughters of American Revolution local chapter’s observance of Washington’s birthday. 250 ladies came to the Sparr residence on Tennessee street and were served refreshments by young ladies in Revolutionary War period costume.
