Lacey services

Mr. Lacey died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Eudora Nursing Center.

He was born June 18, 1922, in Republic County, the son of Charles Philip and Mary (Evans) Lacey. He attended Republic County schools and graduated from Belleville High School in 1939.

He began his college education at Kansas State University before serving for three years as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II. After he was discharged, he received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Kansas State University in 1947.

Mr. Lacey served briefly as a draftsman at Black and Veatch, Kansas City, Mo., and then as an instructor in the engineering department at Kansas University. In 1948, he joined Centron Corp. as a sound recording engineer and film editor. He worked at Centron Corp. for 36 years, retiring in 1984. He worked as a director, writer and actor for the corporation.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. He served as a Sunday school teacher, trustee and elder at the church. He was a past president and 50-year member of Lawrence Noon Kiwanis Club. He also volunteered at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Meals on Wheels and Lifeline.

He married Ruthanne Finley in August 1947, in Cottonwood Falls. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Phil, McPherson, and Bruce, San Anselmo, Calif.; a daughter, Jean Pollock, Middleboro, Mass.; and 11 grandchildren.

A daughter, Marilyn Pendleton, died Nov. 3, 1994.

The family suggests memorials to American Cancer Society or to the Christian Children’s Fund, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
