Chester A. Furrow

Ottawa Services for Chester A. Furrow, 84, Ottawa, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Ottawa.

Mr. Furrow died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Village Manor Nursing Home, Ottawa.

He was born Sept. 13, 1917, in Waynoka, Okla., the son of Harry Perry and Christa (Spafford) Furrow.

Mr. Furrow had lived in Riverside, Calif., before moving to Topeka in the early 1970s. In 1988, he moved to Lawrence. He moved to Ottawa in April 2001.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded a Purple Heart.

Mr. Furrow was a self-employed plasterer.

He married Georgie May Ahlborn on June 2, 1941, in Reno, Nev. She died July 6, 2001.

Survivors include four daughters, Christa Krantz, Las Vegas, Vonnie Slayton, Valliant, Okla., Jessie McWhorter, Granite Falls, Wash., and Irene Williams, Ottawa; two brothers, Harold, Leeds, Utah, and Alvin, Yuma, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today and after 1 p.m. Sunday until service time at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
