Monk to speak at KU on different religions
Father Damascene Christensen will present "Jesus and the Buddha: Reflections on Ancient Christian and Buddhist Spiritual Thought" at 7 p.m. today in the English Room at the Kansas Union at Kansas University.
Christensen, an Eastern Orthodox monk, will talk about the similarities and differences between Christianity and Buddhism. He is the author of numerous books, including "Christ the Eternal Tao."
A former Buddhist, Christensen converted to Orthodox Christianity and joined the St. Herman Brotherhood in 1984. Since then, he has lived in the northern woods of California, practicing the ancient disciplines of the Orthodox Christian monastic life. The free lecture is open to the public.
Violence against women subject of AAUW forum
The American Association of University Women is sponsoring a forum on violence against women from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital auditorium, 325 Maine.
The Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence, Rape Victim/Survivor Service and Women's Transitional Care Services will share at the event. Time for questions will follow their presentations.
