Bethel M. Worthington

Topeka Services for Bethel M. Worthington, 97, Colorado Springs, Colo., will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel, Topeka. Burial will be in Bauer Cemetery, Tecumseh.

Mrs. Worthington died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at I.H.S. at Pike’s Peak care facility in Colorado Springs.

She was born May 21, 1904, in Big Springs, the daughter of Harley I. and Cora F. (Shaffer) Spencer. She was raised in Big Springs and lived there until 1922, when she moved to Tecumseh. She moved to Topeka in 1951, living there until 1960, when she moved to Colorado Springs.

Mrs. Worthington was a member of the Church of Christ, Colorado Springs.

She married W.P. Worthington on Sept. 6, 1922, in Topeka. He died March 27, 1987.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne E., Colorado Springs, and W. Dean, Pomona; two daughters, Virginia Pollom, Tecumseh, and Marjorie Peterson, Sun City, Ariz.; two sisters, Esther I. Spencer, Topeka, and Arlene Johnson, Carbondale; a brother, Frank Spencer, Lawrence; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Friends may call after noon today at the chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
