The undefeated Kansas University baseball team will face Kansas Newman at 3 p.m. today at Hoglund Ballpark.
The Jayhawks are 4-0, with a season-opening victory over Ottawa University and a three-game sweep of Centenary last weekend in Shreveport, La.
Freshman Chris Jones will start on the mound for KU. Jones pitched two shutout innings in relief against Ottawa.
Ryan Baty continues to lead the offensive attack for the Jayhawks. The sophomore second baseman leads the team with a .529 average, two home runs, nine RBIs and six runs.
Freshman Dustin Schroer will again start in left field for Jason Appuhn, who is still suffering from shoulder problems.
Also Monday, KU coach Bobby Randall announced that middle infielder Jared Pitts, of Raytown, Mo., had signed a letter of intent with the Jayhawks.
Pitts, a senior at Raytown South, was an all-conference selection at shortstop in 2000, and hit .367 last year. He also is a four-year member of the school's honor roll.
