Former NBC "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" sidekick Andy Richter didn't want to star in anything warm and fuzzy.
"I wanted something smart aleck-y, not the equivalent of 'Everybody Loves Andy,"' said Richter, who has a new sitcom, "Andy Richter Controls the Universe."
Richter plays a frustrated technical writer who tells stories about his life, then fantasizes about what might have been had he said or done something differently. At times he becomes a wisecracking narrator who acts out his dreamed-up scenarios.
Richter started out as an improv comic in Chicago before he landed next to "Late Night" host Conan O'Brien in 1993. He left the show in May 2000.
Richter developed his Fox series with executive producer Victor Fresco. Andy Ackerman ("Seinfeld") directs.
