Keith F. King

Howard Services for Keith F. King, 53, Howard, will be at 11 a.m. today in the gymnasium at West Elk High School, Howard. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at Highland Cemetery, Iola.

Mr. King died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

He was born March 19, 1948, in Houston, the son of Delbert “Dub” Hall and Carolyn Jeanne (Fischer) King. He grew up in Baldwin and was a 1970 graduate of Baker University, Baldwin, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Mr. King served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

He taught at Washington High School, Kansas City, Kan., from 1970 to 1971. He also taught at Shawnee Mission Northwest, Shawnee, from 1973 to 1978. He was principal at Howard High School from 1978 to 1981. He then moved to Iola, where he was a high school principal for 16 years. In 1984, he was awarded State Educational Administrator of the Year. The next year he was voted Principal of the Year in Kansas Area 2. In 1997, he moved back to Howard, where he was working as the West Elk superintendent of schools. He also served many years on the Kansas State High School Activities Assn.

He married Joanne Elizabeth Rowe on Aug. 8, 1970, in Prairie Village. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Brian, Howard; a daughter, Erin, Mission; and two brothers, Jim and Chris, both of Baldwin.
