Hughes celebration continues, but the weekend also brings other events

One of the most productive high school quarterbacks in the state of Missouri this past year, Park Hill senior Billy Maples plans to walk on with the Kansas football program.

Maples, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound QB from Kansas City, Mo., announced his decision Monday on Twitter.

During his senior season, Maples threw for 3,130 yards and 41 touchdowns, with nine interceptions, while leading Park Hill to the Missouri Class 6 state semifinals and a 10-3 season.

While Maples garnered some interest from a few other smaller college football programs, KU was the only FBS team that even discussed a walk-on opportunity with him, he told the Journal-World.

Maples was a second-team all-state quarterback in Missouri’s Class 6, according to media voters, while the Show Me State’s high school coaches voted him first-team all-state.
