The Douglas County Amateur Radio Club’s annual class to help people gain their first amateur radio license begins at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Independence Inc. conference room, 2001 Haskell Ave.

The club will meet for 10 Mondays with the official Federal Communications Commission license exam session on the following Monday evening. Amateur “ham” radio operators must pass exams to gain their licenses, which grant radio privileges.

Students should simply attend the first class meeting to join the class.

The cost is a $10 registration fee to the club, which also includes the radio club newsletter.

Those interested also need to purchase a textbook for this class, the fourth edition of “Now You’re Talking,” which is available by calling the American Radio Relay League at (800) 326-3942.

The club can assist students in obtaining the textbook, which is no longer available at Radio Shack stores.
