The week: Frank went 3-0, including a fall, to win the 171-pound weight class at the Sunflower League wrestling tournament to become the Firebirds’ first league champion in the program’s five-year history. Frank, now 23-8 and ranked No. 4 in Class 6A, defeated No. 2-ranked Jeff Schieber of Olathe East, 6-5, in the final.

Comment: “Kyle Frank finally broke the jinx of Free State not having a league champion,” FSHS coach Darrell Andrew said. “Kyle worked hard in the summer, came out focused and very aggressive at practice. He drills like he wants to perform on the mat. Kyle never let up in the (championship) match. He took it to him for six minutes.”
