Offices, firms to observe holiday

Many government offices and public services in Lawrence will be closed Monday in observance of Presidents Day.

They also will be closed in many area towns.

Lawrence, Eudora, DeSoto and McLouth city offices will be closed Monday for the holiday. City offices in Baldwin, Tonganoxie, Ottawa and Oskaloosa will remain open. Douglas and Jefferson county offices will be open, but Douglas County courts will be closed. Franklin and Leavenworth county offices also will be closed.

Most banks will be closed.

Douglas County Senior Services Senior Meals Program will not deliver meals Monday. There will be no changes in Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s Meals on Wheels delivery schedule.

Classes at Kansas University will be in session, and the university libraries will maintain regular hours.

Both Lawrence Transit Authority and Lawrence Bus Co. buses will run.

There will be no disruption in city sanitation route schedules the week of Feb. 18.

Parks and Recreation activities and facilities will operate normal hours on Monday. All recreation classes will be held, and adult and youth sports league games will be played.

Metered parking in downtown Lawrence will be free on Monday.

To report a water or sewer emergency after business hours or during weekends and holidays, contact the Utilities Department at (785) 843-2685.

The Lawrence Public Library will be open Monday.

The post office won’t make regular deliveries Monday, but Express Mail deliveries will be made. Mail pickup from collection points around Lawrence will be made as posted on individual boxes. UPS will make deliveries.

The circulation office at the Journal-World will be open for walk-in and phone inquiries during its normal hours, from 4:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

USA Today will be delivered.
