Lola Broils

Junction City Services for Lola Broils, 88, Junction City, will be at 11 a.m. today at Second Missionary Baptist Church, Junction City. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Greenwood Cemetery, Council Grove.

Mrs. Broils died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Select Specialty Hospital, Overland Park.

She was born July 22, 1913, in Council Grove, the daughter of Eugene and Cora (Harden) Kibble. She graduated from Council Grove High School in 1929, and attended Normal School to get a teaching certificate.

Mrs. Broils was a supervisor at Fort Riley Army & Air Force Exchange and a homemaker for Manhattan Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services. She retired Aug. 18, 1995. She was the first recipient of the Quiet Hero of Junction City award in 1995. She was recognized as Outstanding Woman of African Descent by the A.M.E. Church.

She was a member of Church Women United, Arry Williams-WMS, Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church, Junction City, and the Kansas-Nebraska Lay Organization.

She married Marion F. Broils in Council Grove. He died Sept. 24, 1981.

Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Easterwood, Lawrence; two sons, Donald Patton Broils, Kansas City, Kan., and Ronald Dean Broils, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Chester Kibble, Topeka; nine grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren.; 17 great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

A grandson died earlier.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. today at Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church.
