St. John’s begins new RENEW session

A new six-week session of RENEW small faith communities, based on “Finding God Within Us,” begins Sunday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky. For more information, call Beth at 841-6431.

The second session of a two-week series, “Embracing Brokenness, Healing Closure,” was postponed in January due to weather. It has been rescheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 19 in the St. John’s parish hall. Use the north entrance.

Unity welcomes guest speaker

Forrest Swall, professor emeritus of social welfare at Kansas University, will be guest speaker at the 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday services at Unity Church, 416 Lincoln.

Missionaries to speak at Mustard Seed

Philip and Anh Sawyer, missionaries to Southeast Asia, will be featured during the 10 a.m. service Sunday at Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship, 700 Wakarusa Drive. A prophetic ministry meeting is at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Corpus Christi sets Ash Wednesday Masses

Ash Wednesday Masses will be offered at 7 a.m., 12:10 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St. Stations of the Cross will be at 7 p.m. Friday.

Early Christian Awareness training has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

Professor to address faith, conflict

Thomas Heilke, associate professor of political science at Kansas University, will address “How do I make sense of the world? A social scientist talks about faith, conflict and society” at 7 p.m. Thursday in Alderson Auditorium at the Kansas Union.

KU groups sponsoring the talk are the Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, the St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center, the KU Orthodox Christian Student Fellowship and Ecumenical Christian Ministries.

Salvation Army sets Music Sunday

The Salvation Army church, 946 N.H., will conduct its quarterly “Music Sunday” this weekend.

Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m. The 10:30 a.m. Sunday service will feature musical talents of congregation members. Special guest speaker will be John Churchill, former pastor. Capt. Kirk Schuetz will preside. A covered-dish dinner will follow the service.

House of prayer group forms

A home group for the purpose of building the Lawrence House of Prayer is meeting at 7 p.m. Mondays.

This is a nondenominational ministry that will be modeled after the International House of Prayer in the Kansas City area, which combines intercession and worship.

Plymouth service to feature choirs

The Plymouth women’s choir and cherub choir will sing during the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

The children will meet their secret Valentines during Sunday’s coffee hour.

FUMC slates Boy Scout Sunday

Sunday is Boy Scout Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt. Troop 52 and Scout Master Wayne Deaver will be recognized during the 11 a.m. service. Boy Scouts will assist with the service.

The Ash Wednesday service will be set in a Taize tradition. The service, featuring music and silence for reflection and prayer, will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the sanctuary.
