Baldwin girls pound Eudora

Bulldogs shake early rust, roll over Cardinals, 73-38

? Thirteen days never seemed to last so long.

Because of weather-related game cancellations last week, Baldwin High’s girl’s basketball team hadn’t played in almost two weeks before last night’s game with Eudora.

It showed, but only for a bit.

During the first few minutes, the errant passes and airballs proved that the Bulldogs were a bit rusty, but the sloppy play didn’t last long.

Baldwin (12-2) led the Cardinals (5-11) by just four points, 15-11, after the first quarter, but extended that lead to a 36-20 halftime advantage en route to a 73-38 win over Eudora.

“We came out and we didn’t play the way we usually do,” Bulldogs coach Eric Toot said. “But after the first quarter we settled down and you didn’t see many more bad shots.”

Six Baldwin players scored more than eight points, and senior forward Casey Millstein led all players with 14 points.

“We’ve got so many good kids,” he said. “Only two girls have scored more than 20 points all year. We couldn’t be playing the kind of basketball we’ve been doing if these girls weren’t so unselfish.”

Baldwin forced 15 turnovers in the first half, and when Lauren Kracl Eudora’s 6-foot sophomore forward who scored a team-high 13 points committed her fourth foul less than three minutes into the third quarter, the Bulldogs went on a 21-4 run over the next five minutes.

“We’ve been at a loss all season to find a second or third scorer,” Cardinal coach Gretchen Schreiner said. “Tonight wasn’t much different.”

The Bulldogs have games on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Tuesday’s game is against top-ranked Spring Hill.

“It’s going to be a long, fun week,” Toot said.
