Texas jail escapees’ journey finally ends at store

? Smoking, drinking beer and gobbling beef jerky, two Texas jail escapees spent their final hours of freedom chatting with a convenience store owner they held hostage for more than six hours.

The standoff, which ended peacefully about 4:30 a.m. Thursday, brought an end to the escapees’ arduous trek from Texas to a convenience store on the outskirts of this small town.

After living outdoors for nearly a week, escapees Curtis Gambill and Joshua Bagwell were simply cold and hungry, store owner George West said.

The two raided the beer cooler and ate everything in sight. In the end, all it took was the promise of a pizza and a family visit to persuade Gambill and Bagwell to give up.
