AmeriCorps addressing special needs

Douglas County Emergency Management Director Paula Phillips said AmeriCorps officials are in the area working with people in special need of assistance after last week’s ice storm.

Phillips said the nonprofit group may be able to provide financial assistance for debris removal and other storm-related costs.

Douglas County residents interested in applying for the program should call Phillips at 838-2460 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Counties included in Thursday’s federal declaration are: Allen, Anderson, Barber, Bourbon, Butler, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Coffey, Comanche, Cowley, Crawford, Douglas, Elk, Franklin, Greenwood, Harper, Jefferson, Johnson, Kingman, Kiowa, Labette, Leavenworth, Linn, Lyon, Miami, Montgomery, Neosho, Osage, Pratt, Sedgwick, Shawnee, Sumner, Wilson, Woodson and Wyandotte.
