Logger requests no new regulations

A commercial logger urged Douglas County commissioners Wednesday to not create new regulations for his industry.

Dan Barrow of Barrow Trading Co. told commissioners he disagreed with concerns raised by some neighbors that his logging operation on 17 acres near Lone Star was harmful to the land and would increase flooding problems on nearby Washington Creek.

“We’re not out to butcher any piece of land,” Barrow said. “I think anyone who knows me knows I’m a conservationist.”

Commissioners last month asked planning staff members to study the possibility of requiring commercial logging operations to receive a conditional use permit.

Wednesday commissioners said they were still interested in studying the possibility.
