She was born Jan. 15, 1903, in Shawnee, Okla., the daughter of William H. and Nettie Jane (King) Smith. She was in the first graduating class at Liberty Memorial High School, Lawrence. She attended Emporia State Teacher's College.
Mrs. Garber taught at rural schools in Douglas County and then was a homemaker.
She married Otto H. Garber on Aug. 17, 1932, at her parents' home in the Bethel community. He died July 1, 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Netti Biggs, Overland Park; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
