She was born May 31, 1919, in Lawrence, the daughter of Jesse Eli and Maude (Crowder) Mercer. She grew up in Albuquerque, N.M., and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1939.
Mrs. Carleton was a secretary at Lawrence Loan and Finance Company and worked for J.C. Penney, Lawrence, until her retirement.
She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church. She sang in the Sweet Adelines.
She married Edmund V. Carleton on April 17, 1940, in Albuquerque. He died March 9, 1975.
Survivors include a cousin.
The family suggests memorials to the charity of the donor's choice, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
