Police make arrest in January robbery

A Lawrence patrol officer’s persistence paid off Monday when he arrested a suspect in the January robbery of a man in a grocery store parking lot.

Patrick U. Walker, 18, 1245 Pa., was charged Tuesday in Douglas County District Court with aggravated robbery. He is in the Douglas County Jail on $35,000 bond.

About 1:30 a.m. Jan. 12, a Eudora couple was approached by two men in the parking lot at Checkers Foods, 2300 La.

Moments later the suspects struck the man with beer and juice bottles, then robbed him of $100, police said. The suspects then fled.

A patrol officer who responded to the call that night used a partial license tag number and other information and has continued to investigate, police spokesman Sgt. Mike Pattrick said.

That investigation led to Walker’s arrest at a residence in the 1200 block of Pennsylvania, Pattrick said. The second suspect is still being sought.

Knife suspect charged

A 44-year-old man was charged Tuesday in Douglas County District Court with threatening two adults and a baby with a knife.

Michael G. Brown, whose only address was listed at the Virginia Inn, 2903 W. Sixth St., is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of endangering a child. He is being held in the Douglas County Jail on $5,000 bond.

Brown was arrested after Lawrence Police were called about 1:40 a.m. to the Virginia Inn. An 18-year-old Lawrence man told officers that he and a 20-year-old McLouth woman were threatened by a man with a knife. The woman had an infant girl with her, police said.

The incident allegedly occurred in a motel room at the Virginia Inn, police reports said. Brown was arrested at the motel.

Brown is scheduled to appear at 2 p.m. Feb. 13 before Judge Mike Malone.
