DeSoto resident admits filing false tax return

Kansas City, Kan. Â A DeSoto woman pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court to one count of filing a false income tax return.

Marlene Saathof, 53, admitted that she failed to report on her 1998 1040 federal income tax return $292,471 that she embezzled from her employer, Entire Supply, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

Saathoff faces a maximum of three years in federal prison without parole. Sentencing will be 9:30 a.m. April 22 before federal Judge Kathryn Vratil.

KU graduate begins as new county planner

Mark Wilson has started work as a planner for the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Department.

Wilson will provide information and assistance to developers, the business community and the public on city and county planning and development policies and standards.

Wilson has a background in land-use law and environmental planning. He most recently served as a law clerk for Kansas Department of Transportation. He received a master's degree in urban planning from Kansas University in December.
