Burglaries and thefts reported
Douglas County Sheriff’s officers are investigating the vandalism of one car and the theft of another at Blue Grass Motor Mart, along U.S. Highway 40 near Big Springs. Sometime Saturday someone damaged the steering column of a 1986 Chevrolet pickup truck after breaking out a window, a sheriff’s report said. Damage was listed at $3,170. Another pickup, a 1987 GMC 1500, was reported missing. It was valued at $2,995.
A painting valued at $2,000 was damaged in the Sigma Chi fraternity, 1439 Tenn. The painting was removed from a wall in the front room and torn, Lawrence Police said.
Police are investigating the theft of two black leather jackets, valued at $250 each, and $5,430 in other items from a house on the 700 block of Ash Street. The victim, a 38-year-old Lawrence woman, reported that the theft occurred between Aug. 31 and Nov. 18, 2001.
