Florence Garber

Services for Florence Garber, 99, Lawrence, will be at a later date at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.

Mrs. Garber died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.

She was born Jan. 15, 1903, in Shawnee, Okla., the daughter of William H. and Nettie Jane (King) Smith.

She graduated in the first graduating class of Liberty Memorial High School, then attended the Emporia State Teacher’s College. She taught school in Douglas County rural schools.

She married Otto H. Garber on Aug. 17, 1932, at her parent’s home in the Bethel community.

He died July 1, 1987.

Survivors include a daughter, Netti Biggs, Overland Park, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Presbyterian Manor, Douglas County Hospice or to the Watkins Community Museum of History, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
