Through Feb. 28: Mural by Lawrence High School students that is inspired by Hughes’ poetry and African-American quilts by Marla Jackson, Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

Through Saturday: Tim Rollins and Kids of Survival, a workshop collaboration to create works of art based on Hughes’ poetry, Helen Foresman Spencer Museum of Art, Kansas University.

Tuesday: “America Sings: A Celebration of American Composers,” featuring sopranos Harolyn Blackwell and Florence Quivar, 7:30 p.m., Lied Center.

Wednesday: “Music and Poetry of Langston Hughes,” musical interpretation of 15 poems by Hughes, 7:30 p.m., Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass.

Thursday: Poets Lisa Gillard, Hans Ostrom, Willie Perdomo, Kevin Powell and Kalamu Ya Salaam visit Lawrence public schools, afternoon.

Thursday: “An Evening of Langston Hughes,” featuring actor Danny Glover, 7 p.m., Lied Center.

Thursday-Feb. 10: “Let American Be America Again: An International Symposium of the Art, Life and Legacy of Langston Hughes,” Kansas University.

Friday: “Langston Hughes: Black Film and Black Filmmakers,” film festival, 7 p.m., Haskell Indian Nations University.

Saturday: Langston Hughes Birthday Party, featuring African-American storytelling and a birthday cake, 3 p.m.-4 p.m., auditorium, Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

Saturday: Book signing and reading by Paule Marshall, author of “Brown Girl, Brownstones” and “The Fisher King,” 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m., The Raven Bookstore, 8 E. Seventh St.

Saturday: Public reception for Tim Rollins and the schoolchildren who helped created an artwork, with hip-hop band Sounds Good, 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Spencer Museum of Art, KU.
