Cub Scout Pack 3055, chartered by Westside Presbyterian Church of Lawrence, had its Arrow Light ceremony Jan. 15. The Arrow of Light is the highest award in Cub Scouting and the only Cub Scout badge or rank award that can be worn on a Boy Scout uniform. The following Webelos earned their Arrow of Light: Joshua Gore, Evan Taylor, Kiefer Gibler, Seth McCauley, Will Pellett, Taylor Zook, Raith Vincent, Zach Ortiz, Cody Janousek and Jake Miller.

The results of the first Popcorn Sale for Cub Scout Pack 3462, chartered to Langston Hughes School, were announced at the pack’s Pinewood Derby on Jan. 12. The top 10 sellers were Jacob Davis, Joey Waisner, Kale Joyce, Alek Joyce, Spencer Chestnut, Nolan Frank, B.J. Hambleton, Ranjeet Ghorpade, Scott Ragan and John Corbett. Tiger B Den sold the most popcorn.

Boy Scout Troop 53, chartered to the First Christian Church of Lawrence, had a camp-out Jan. 12-13 at Camp Bromelsick. Twenty-five scouts and five adult leaders attended. They worked on orienteering, general advancement and planned activities for the upcoming Klondike Derby, which will be Feb. 23-24. The activities they worked on included winter first aid, winter cooking, fire building and a troop patrol challenge.

Deerfield Cub Scout Pack 3370 had its annual Pinewood Derby race Jan. 19.

The winners of Tiger Den were: Nathan Lasley, first place; Josh Hess, second place; Dan Jasperson, third place; Alex Green, best design.

Winners of the Wolf Den were: Austin Green, first place; Tim Turner, second place; Stephen Bowman, third place; and Blake Hocking, best design.

Winners of the Bear Den were: Mitchell Todd, first place; Steve Norris, second place; Shelton Mead, third place; and Eric Studley, best design.

Winners of Webelo 1 Den were: Cavan Sanchez, first place; Clint Hanson, second place; Josiah Smith, third place; and Josiah Smith, best design.

The winners of Webelo II Den were: Dale Shillington, first place; Eric Putnam, second place; Daniel Aul, third place; and Dale Shillington, best design.

Overall winners were Austin Green, first place; Tim Turner, second place; Clint Hanson, third place; and Mitchell Todd, best design.

Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered to the First United Methodist Church of Lawrence, had a winter camp-out Jan. 25-26 in rural Douglas County. The boys practiced their winter camping skills and prepared for the Klondike Derby. Boys who participated were: Philip Gilreath, Evan Tedlock, Wes Hinkle, Evan Cloar, Josh Cosgrove, Roland Klundt, Tristan Wagner, Mason McCurdy, Will Sharp, David Long, Jesse Walburn, Henry Rieske, Nick Joseph, Levi Klundt, David Ohlhausen and Justin Deaver. Adults who attended were led by Wayne Deaver, scoutmaster, and included Glen Sharp, Rowley Tedlock, Rod Zinn, Jason Wingerson and Mike McCurdy.
