Sharp services

Memorial services for Elsie May Sharp, 89, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church. Private inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Sharp died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born Feb. 29, 1912, in Norton, the daughter of Bert George and Effie Belle (Snyder) Brown. She grew up in Norton. She previously had lived in Topeka and Lecompton before moving in 1958 to Lawrence.

Mrs. Sharp was a piano teacher, poet and homemaker. Many of her poems were published in the Lawrence Journal-World. She was one of the original tenants of the Edgewood Housing Authority, Lawrence, and served on the Edgewood Tenant’s Assn. for many years. She was also volunteered by leading Sunday school services at several nursing homes, including Valley View Care Center, Lawrence; Eudora Nursing Center; and Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Eastern Star and Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, all in Lawrence.

She married Glenn E. Person in 1935, in Beaver City, Neb. He died in 1955. She married William Sharp in 1958 in Lecompton. He died in 1976.

A son, George F. Person, died Nov. 24, 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Maynard G. Person, Las Vegas, and Henry B. Person, Duluth, Minn.; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
