Sebelius aide hints at agency consolidation

The administration of Gov.-elect Kathleen Sebelius might consolidate some economic development agencies, according to Lt. Gov.-elect John Moore.

“If agencies have principally the same purpose, then we don’t need 12,” Moore said in a recent interview.

He specifically referred to agencies that handle economic development, but he wouldn’t say which ones.

“I’d rather not share at this time,” Moore said.

Leading economic development agencies are Kansas Inc. and Kansas Technology Enterprise Corp., though Moore didn’t specifically mention them.

“We’ve been collaborating,” said Tracy Taylor, KTEC president, of meetings with Sebelius’ transition team.

Taylor has not been told of consolidation plans and declined to say what he thinks of potential consolidation.

Kansas Inc. president Charles Ranson couldn’t be reached for comment.
